Rock, limestone and compact concrete can prevent direct pile driving.
Controlled pre-drilling creates a guide hole before the pile enters, reducing machine wear and improving alignment.
When controlled pre-drilling is needed
Rocky or limestone ground and compact concrete layers do not always allow direct driving. Pre-drilling creates a guide hole for the foundation pile.
The process reduces mechanical stress and pile-driver wear. The pile follows the hole instead of deflecting against the obstruction. When the hard layer is rock, use percussive breaking with the pneumatic DTH hammer. Use the geotechnical assessment of the solar site to estimate where pre-drilling is needed.
Drilling units for 260F and 300F
TURCHI 260F and 300F can carry optional drilling units:
- TRI/4 hydraulic core drill: for road work, it drills up to 4 holes at the same time.
- Lateral and central augers: for other pre-drilling needs, mounted on the rotation head.
The material and sector determine the choice. On roads, TRI/4 speeds up repeated holes in an existing base. On mixed ground, choose an auger or a percussive DTH according to the hardness of the layer.
Use the 7-step configurator to select the drilling unit and prepare the available geotechnical data.

When direct driving is not possible: rocky ground, limestone or compact concrete layers. A guide hole reduces machine wear and improves the final result.
As an option on TURCHI 260F and 300F. Drilling units include the TRI/4 hydraulic core drill for the road sector and lateral and central augers.
A hydraulic core drill for road applications that drills up to 4 holes simultaneously, available as an optional extra on TURCHI pile drivers.
